Wision
Your GPU, not emulated
Warm64’s own graphics driver for Linux guests: OpenGL, video and a whole desktop, drawn by the host’s GPU through WebGPU or WebGL2.
A graphics stack of its own
Not a port of Mesa. Wision is written from scratch in Rust for this machine, and it speaks the interfaces Linux programs already use.
EGL and GBM
Where compositors and toolkits start: Wayland windows, off-screen surfaces, and the buffers a compositor puts on the display.
OpenGL ES 3.0
The API that GNOME Shell, GTK and the browsers’ engines draw with.
OpenGL 2.1 through GLX
For X11 programs under Xwayland, the fixed-function pipeline included.
VA-API decoding
VP9, H.264 and AV1, 8- and 10-bit. In a browser, the host’s decoder does the work instead of the guest’s CPU.
GLSL, translated
A program’s shaders are translated for whichever renderer the host has, to WGSL for WebGPU, and the program never knows the difference.
Written from scratch
A driver and a protocol designed for this machine and for the GPUs that browsers expose.
Drawn by the host’s GPU
The guest’s drawing leaves the machine as a stream of GPU operations and runs on real hardware, on a worker of its own.
WebGPU
Used first, where the browser has it.
WebGL2
The same frames where it doesn’t.
Software
Warm64’s own rasterizer, for a host with no GPU, and for Node.
Installs itself
Nothing in the guest image needs preparing. Wision installs on any arm64 Linux, glibc or musl, and one command takes it out again.
No tools needed
Attach the installer as a read-only disk and run it as root. It needs nothing but the shell and dd.
-drive file=wision:installer,if=virtio
sh < /dev/vdb
One line
Have the built-in network answer the name wision and serve the installer there.
-netdev user,id=n0,wision=on
curl wision | sh

A whole desktop
What runs on it.
GNOME Shell
The shell, its overview and its animations, composited through Wision.
GTK apps
GTK4 draws its windows, text and icons with it.
GNOME Web
Pages, WebGL and video, inside the browser’s own sandbox.
Firefox
WebRender and WebGL.
X11 programs
Xwayland is accelerated, and GLX programs draw in their windows.
Until it’s installed
The guest draws with its own software OpenGL, so nothing breaks first.
